A Healthy Heart is a Happy Heart
Feb 10, 2025Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to teach little ones about love, kindness, and—most importantly—keeping their hearts healthy! A strong heart helps us run, jump, play, and have fun with friends.
Our hearts work hard every day to keep us moving. Just like we care for our toys or pets, we must also care for our hearts! Eating healthy foods, staying active, and getting good sleep all help keep our hearts happy and strong.
Fun Ways to Practice
-
Heart-Healthy Snack Time: Serve heart-shaped strawberries, apple slices, and whole-grain crackers to show how yummy healthy foods can be!
-
Heart-Happy Dance Party: Turn on music and have a "Heart-Happy Dance Party" to get little hearts pumping.
-
Kindness Counts: Teach children that kindness is like exercise for the heart! Make a “Heart Chain” where each child adds a paper heart with a kind action they’ve done.
-
Valentine's Art & Science: Create an “Inside My Heart” craft by cutting out a paper heart and drawing things that help our hearts, such as running, water, and vegetables.
-
Breathing & Relaxation: Practice slow, deep breaths to show how calm breathing helps our hearts stay strong and relaxed.
Tips for Teachers, Parents, and Caregivers
-
Encourage movement every day, whether dancing, skipping, or playing outside.
-
Choose foods that help hearts grow strong—fruits, veggies, and whole grains are a great start!
-
Rest is important! A good night’s sleep helps little hearts work better.
By making heart health fun and engaging, you’re helping your child build healthy habits that will last a lifetime. Let’s celebrate love and strong hearts this Valentine’s Day! ❤️
